Some people who spent four years on a college campus, living in the dormitories and going to fraternity parties, believe their degree is worth more than someone who earned that same degree from home, online.
Maybe the on-campus student had a great time in school, spent several hours every day in the campus library or mess hall, had good relationships with their professors and made great friends in the dorms…
But are they right? Are in person degrees more valuable than online degrees?
Well, let’s talk about what matters most. The “end game”, which is using your degree to get a job.
But before we show you some information on that “end game”, which will answer the question of whether online degrees are respected, it’s important for you to know about School Match Pro.
You see, we have connections to colleges and universities across the country. Some of which offer both in person degrees and online degrees. So, we are aware of the ins-and-outs of each type of education (online vs. in person).
We know that earning a degree in person (on campus) isn’t for everyone – especially working adults – and that earning a degree online isn’t for everyone – especially those fresh out of high school looking for the college “experience.”
But, for today’s purposes, we don’t want to talk about the social aspects of the two, but instead we want to share the practical aspects…
And we want to answer this question: Are online degrees as respected as in person degrees?
So, let’s get to it.
Now, according to a study by Northeastern University, 61% of Human Resources employees (who are often in charge of hiring for new jobs) view online degrees as equal to or better than traditional, in-person degrees.[1]
Read that again… “equal to or better than”!
And, Intelligent.com says, “Employers will not penalize you if your degree is online, and the skills and training you earned will be as well-developed as if you had been there in person.”[2]
Fobes magazine says 84% of adults now believe that employers are more accepting of online degrees today than they were just a few short years ago… with 72% saying earning an online degree is more reputable than it was five years ago.
Further, Forbes says a poll showed over 90% of adults find online education “very successful.”[3]
So, there you have it. Both employers and adult students agree. Apples to apples, and online degree is just as good as an in person degree.
But… could an online degree be better than an in person degree?
Remember that study we mentioned above from Northwestern University? It said, 61% of HR employees believe online degrees are equal to or better than a traditional degree.
That’s great, for sure. But for you, an adult considering getting your degree online, it could go beyond “equal to or better than.”
Here’s what we mean.
It’s been shown that earning the very same degree, from the very same school online as compared to in person…
Can be drastically cheaper!
We’re talking tens of thousands of dollars cheaper.[4]
Now, when you put all this information together a very strong case can be made that online degrees could be better than in person degrees, especially if you’re a working adult.
So, if earning a degree that’s just as respected as the in-person degree is, and saving a lot of money while doing it is your thing…
Then enrolling in an online college may be your best choice.
